Valve Spring Installed Height
Installed height of valve spring should be 1.575" (40 mm). Measure from top of spring seat to top of oil shield (exhaust only) or retainer (intake only). If measurement exceeds specifications, install .030" (.75 mm) shim at spring seat. DO NOT install more than one shim. Ensure spring height with shim does not result in installed height under minimum specification. See Fig 1.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
