NOTE: Use only the 50 lb. unit refrigerant tank, J 39500-50. The unit's overfill limitation mechanism has been calibrated specifically for the use of this tank, as the tank's valve system is set specifically for this unit.
1. Connect high side (red) hose with disconnect coupler to high side fitting of A/C system, then open coupler valve.
2. Connect low side (blue) hose with disconnect coupler to low side fitting of A/C system, then open coupler valve.
3. Check gages on unit's control panel to ensure A/C system pressure. If there is no pressure, there is no refrigerant to discharge.
CAUTION:If there is no refrigerant to discharge, do not continue with operation; air will be drawn into recovery tank.
4. Open high side and low side valves on control panel, then both red GAS (vapor) and blue LIQUID valves on tank.
5. Slowly open oil drain valve to check if separator contains oil. If any oil drains into catch bottle at bottom of unit, allow it to drain until there is no more oil in separator. Close oil drain valve, then dispose of oil in catch bottle and return bottle to unit.
6. Plug unit in, then turn main power switch on.
7. Press Recover on key pad. Before discharge begins, unit will clear itself of refrigerant; CL-L will appear on display. Clearing process takes from 30 seconds to 3 minutes.
8. When clearing is complete, unit will automatically start discharge and control pad will show unit is in Recover mode of Automatic cycle. Weight of refrigerant being discharged will also be displayed.
9. Compressor shuts off automatically when initial discharge has occurred (about 17 Hg of vacuum). At end of initial discharge, display shows CPL and alternately flashes weight of refrigerant discharged and OIL/OZ. (OIL/GMS). After initial discharge, more refrigerant might be trapped in system. About 5 minutes is required for it to boil out of oil. Proceed to Step 12.
CAUTION: Some A/C lubricating oil might be removed with refrigerant during discharge. OIL/OZ. (OIL/GMS) flashing is a reminder to drain discharged oil at this time. Any oil lost must be replaced later when system is recharged with refrigerant.
10. Slowly open drain valve and drain oil into calibrated oil catch bottle at bottom of unit, then close valve when oil is completely drained.
11. Read and record amount of oil removed in catch bottle, then dispose of discharged oil. Never reuse discharged oil.
12. Wait 5 minutes, then check control panel Low Side Gauge. If A/C system has maintained vacuum, discharge is complete.
13. If Low Side Gauge pressure rises above zero, this indicates presence of refrigerant in system. If this occurs, press HOLD/CONT key on key pad to discharge additional refrigerant. Repeat this step as needed until system vacuum is maintained for 2 minutes.
14. If display flashes Full during discharge process and unit shuts off, unit tank is full. An empty tank, J 39500-50, must be installed to accommodate additional refrigerant.
CAUTION: Do not use any other kind of tank.
NOTE: It is possible to lower amount of refrigerant in unit's tank by charging other vehicles.
