Fast Idle Speed

1985 Chevrolet Nova/Chevy II L4-1600cc 4ALC NummiSECTION Fast Idle Speed

Refer to Tune Up Specifications chart for curb and fast idle speeds. Check and, if necessary, adjust engine idle speeds every 30,000 miles.




Nova Models

1. Remove air cleaner.
2. Plug hot idle compensator hose to prevent rough idling.
3. Disconnect and plug hose from thermal vacuum switch valve M port. This will shut off the choke opener and EGR systems.
4. While holding throttle slightly open, push choke valve closed and hold it closed as you release the throttle.
5. Start engine but do not depress the accelerator pedal.
6. Set fast idle speed to specification by turning the fast idle adjusting screw.
