Electronic Control Module

1985 Chevrolet Impala 4.3 Z, 700R4/MD8SECTION Electronic Control Module

The Electronic Control Module (ECM) is located behind right side of instrument panel. Information from several sensors is received and processed by the ECM to produce proper pulse duration for each injector, correct idle speed and proper spark timing.

The ECM performs calculations to control the following engine operating conditions: engine start, engine flooding, engine running, fuel enrichment during acceleration, lean fuel mixture during deceleration, battery voltage correction, and fuel cut-off.
