Fwd Models: Removal

1985 Chevrolet Cavalier Base, 4D Sedan, 2.8 W, StandardSECTION Removal & Installation
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Install engine holding fixture (J-28467) and raise engine just enough to take pressure off motor mounts. On models equipped with hydraulic clutch, remove lower bezel from under steering column. Remove clutch master cylinder actuating rod and remove slave cylinder from transaxle.
  2. On all other models, remove heater hose clamp from mount bracket. Disconnect and remove horns and air cleaner. Disconnect clutch cable from clutch shift lever. If V6 equipped, remove fuel lines and clamps at clutch cable bracket and remove exhaust crossover pipe.
  3. On all models, remove transaxle mount and bracket. Disconnect shift cables, retaining clamps and ground strap from transaxle. Remove upper transaxle-to-engine bolts.
  4. Raise vehicle on hoist and drain transaxle. Remove air management valve attaching bolts (if equipped). Remove front wheels and remove drive axles. Disconnect speedometer cable from housing.
  5. Support transaxle with a jack and remove lower transaxle-to-engine bolts. Slide transaxle from engine and lower from vehicle.
