Clutch Release

- Start engine and put brakes on. Depress clutch pedal until it is about 1/2" (12.7 mm) from floor mat. Shift back and forth between 1st and Reverse. If shifts are smooth, clutch is working properly. If shifts are not smooth, clutch is not releasing fully.
- Check pedal bushings for sticking or excessive wear. Check clutch fork is properly installed on ball stud in bellhousing. Fork can pull off ball stud if not properly lubricated. Check slave cylinder and pedal travel. Measure slave cylinder travel at clutch fork.
- On Astro & Safari minimum travel should be .832" (21.13 mm) for slave cylinder. Clutch pedal should have about 6" (152.4 mm) of travel for these models.
