SEAL SELECTION:

Power steering pumps on some 1985 models have revised "square cut" seals which provides the seal between the reservoir and the housing at the reservoir mounting bolt hole(s) and at the pressure line fitting. This change is effective with early 1985 production on all submerged pump assemblies.

The new seal is approximately twice as thick as the old one and requires a deeper counterbore in the housing. Consequently, new seals will not fit the old housings and old seals will not provide an adequate repair when used with the new housing. The new housing will be the only one provided for service from WDDGM. Both old and new seals will be provided in each appropriate reservoir kit and in a new seal service kit, part No. 7848522 which will replace the present kit, part No. 5688044.

These kits will contain an instruction sheet which shows the method of identifying the new housing, and shows the difference between the new and old seal. (See Illustration)
There has been a design change in the hydraulic pump housing. Look at the mounting pad shown. If the mounting pad shows a stamped "X" use the three thicker square cut O-ring seals provided in this kit.
