SUBJECT: Diagnosing Internal Pressure Leaks

SOLUTION:

To help determine the cause of friction material failure on the 700 R4, you need two pressure gauges that are calibrated the same.

1. Connect Gauge # 1 to main line pressure. Leave it connected for the entire test.

2. Connect Gauge # 2 to the oil circuit that you feel is causing the problem. See illustration for the location of the pressure taps.

3. Gauge # 2 should read within 10 lbs of gauge # 1 when the gauge # 2 circuit is applied. If the variation exceeds 10 lbs, it is an indication of a hydraulic leak in that circuit.
