SPECIAL POLICY COLD STARTABILITY ADJUSTMENT SUPPLEMENT

Model and Year: 1983-1984 CHEVROLET CAVALIER MODELS EQUIPPED WITH 2.0L ENGINE
(VIN CODE P) AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND FEDERAL EMISSION SYSTEM

TO: ALL INVOLVED DEALERS

Some 1983-1984 Chevrolet Cavalier models equipped with the cold startability adjustment parts, authorized in "Chevrolet Dealer Service Bulletin" 84-221 dated November, 1984; may experience a check engine light, and Code 42 may be stored. Vehicle performance will not be affected.

The check engine light in many cases is being generated by false signals to the ECM and can be corrected by restarting the vehicle following the procedure below:

1) Turn key to off position, wait 10 seconds.

2) Restart the engine using the starting procedure placard on the visor.

RELEASE THE KEY AS SOON AS THE ENGINE HAS STARTED.

If the check engine light remains on after using the restarting procedure other conditions may be indicated.

Efforts are being made to eliminate this condition. Information will be forthcoming.
