Removal & Installation: Clutch: Removal
1983 Chevrolet Step Van P20, 5.7 M, Automatic, 400/M40SECTION Removal
- With transmission removed, disconnect rod and return spring at clutch fork. Remove clutch and flywheel housing. Snap fork off of ball pivot. Remove release bearing from clutch fork. Mark position of clutch cover on flywheel for reassembly.
- Install a used clutch drive gear to support clutch assembly during removal. Loosen clutch cover bolts 1 or 2 turns at a time until clutch plate spring tension is released. Remove used clutch drive gear and remove clutch cover and disc.
