Removal & Installation: Removal

- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove radiator upper mounting panel. On A/C equipped vehicles, remove upper half of fan shroud. Remove drive belts and engine fan. Remove front cover retaining screws and nuts. Remove cover. Rotate crankshaft until timing mark on pulley is at zero degrees (No. 1 cylinder at TDC). Remove A/C compressor and brackets, if necessary.
- Insert 1/8" drill bit or rod through hole in upper rear cover and through hole in camshaft drive sprocket. This is provided to verify camshaft timing. Remove timing belt front and lower cover. Loosen idler pulley, and allow pulley to rotate clockwise. See Fig 1. Remove timing belt from sprockets.
