Output Shaft: Reassembly
1983 Chevrolet Cavalier CS, 2D Convertible, 2.0 B, Standard, M19SECTION Reassembly
- Apply lubricant to thrust surfaces and bearings of all gears. Install thrust needle bearing, needle bearing, 1st gear and synchronizer ring on output shaft. Mate grooves of synchronizer ring with inserts in sleeve and hub assembly.
- Press collar and sleeve and hub assembly together using Collar Installer (J-8853-01) and Pilot (J-33369). Apply lubricant to entire assembly before and after reassembly. Ensure insert springs do not interfere with hub after installation. Install synchronizer ring, needle bearing and 2nd gear.
- Install key into groove on output shaft. Apply lubricant to interior of 3rd-4th gear and install on output shaft while aligning key with keyway. Fit key together with rear bearing. Using Bearing Installer (J-33374), press bearing into place on output shaft. Press front bearing onto shaft using Bearing Installer (J-33368).
