Ignition Timing

1983 Chevrolet Camaro Base, 5.0 H, AutomaticSECTION Ignition Timing
NOTE: Some engines are equipped with a receptacle for a magnetic probe timing meter, located 9.5Β° ATDC. DO NOT use this location for timing with a conventional timing light.
  1. Place transmission in Neutral (man. trans.) or "P" (auto. trans.).
  2. Place EST into by-pass mode by disconnecting single Tan/Black wire near right valve cover.
  3. Connect timing light to No. 1 spark plug wire. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Turn air conditioner off.
  4. Adjust ignition timing by turning distributor housing. Recheck timing after tightening. Remove timing light and connect all wiring and vacuum hoses.
