On 1982 vehicles equipped with a 2.5L EFI L-4 engine and manual transmission, it is possible to set a false code 24 if certain engine operating characteristics are met. To set a false code 24, the vehicle may be in Neutral, with engine RPM above 1200 RPM for more than 60 seconds. A trouble code set in this manner should be disregarded when servicing the vehicle. The code may be cleared from the ECM memory by disconnecting the positive battery cable pigtail for 10 seconds.
