Circuit/System Testing

2011 Cadillac CTS Base, 4D Wagon, 3.6 D, AWDSECTION Circuit/System Testing
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the automatic transmission manual shift switch left and right wire harness connector.
  2. Ignition ON, test for 11-13 volts on terminal 2 on both the automatic transmission manual shift switch left and right harness connectors and ground.
    • If not within the specified value, test the voltage circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  3. Ignition OFF, test for infinite resistance between terminal 1 and terminal 2 on the automatic transmission manual shift switch-right, with the switch open.
    • If not the specified value, replace the automatic transmission manual shift switch-right
  4. Ignition OFF, test for 1.20-1.50 k Ξ© between terminal 1 and terminal 2 on the automatic transmission manual shift switch-right, with the switch closed.
    • If not within the specified value, replace the automatic transmission manual shift switch-right.
  5. Ignition OFF, test for infinite resistance between terminal 1 and terminal 2 on the automatic transmission manual shift switch-left, with the switch open.
    • If not within the specified value, replace the automatic transmission manual shift switch-right.
  6. Ignition OFF, test for 1.50-1.80 k Ξ© between terminal 1 and terminal 2 on the automatic transmission manual shift switch-left, with the switch closed.
    • If not within the specified value, replace the automatic transmission manual shift switch-left.
  7. Ignition OFF, connect a 3A fused jumper wire between terminal 1 and terminal 2 on the automatic transmission manual shift switch-left harness connector.
  8. Ignition ON, test for 11-13 volts on the BCM connector X1 terminal 7 and ground.
    • If not within the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • β€’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • β€’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • β€’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • β€’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • β€’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
