Circuit/System Testing

2007 Cadillac XLR VSECTION Circuit/System Testing
IMPORTANT: You must perform the Circuit/System Verification before proceeding with the circuit/system testing.
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the MAP sensor.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 5 ohms of resistance between the low reference circuit terminal A and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
  3. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 volts between the 5-volt reference circuit terminal C and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
  4. Verify the scan tool MAP Sensor parameter is less than 15 kPa.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
  5. Install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal B and the 5-volt reference terminal. Verify the scan tool MAP Sensor parameter is greater than 200 kPa.
    • If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground, open or high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
  6. If all circuits test normal, test the MAP sensor. Refer to Component TestΒ  for instructions.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • β€’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • β€’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • β€’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • β€’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • β€’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
