Diagnostic Procedure

2000 Cadillac DeVille DHSSECTION Diagnostic Procedure
  1. If power tilt/telescoping steering column diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If power tilt/telescoping steering column diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to POWER TILT/TELESCOPING STEERING COLUMN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECKΒ  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select DTC INFORMATION list. Monitor CURRENT DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE(S) list. If DTC B2858 is current, go to next step. If DTC B2858 is not current, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDSΒ  .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Steering Column Tilt/Telescoping Module (SCCM) connector C4. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Monitor CURRENT DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE(S) list. If DTC B2858 is current, go to next step. If DTC B2858 is not current, go to step Β 5 .
  4. Check for poor connections at tilt/telescoping steering column switch connector. If connections are okay, go to step Β 6 . If faulty connection is found and repaired, go to step Β 7 .
  5. Replace tilt/telescoping steering column switch. See STEERING COLUMN TILT/TELESCOPING SWITCHΒ  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step Β 7 .
  6. Replace Steering Column Tilt/Telescoping Module (SCCM). See STEERING COLUMN TILT/TELESCOPING MODULEΒ  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  7. Use scan tool to clear DTCs. Recheck power tilt/telescoping steering column system operation. Recheck for DTC. If DTC resets, go to step Β 2 . If DTC does not reset, repair is complete.
