PROCEDURE
To correct starter motor noise during starting, use the following procedure:
1. Refer to Figure 1 to determine problem.
2. If diagnosis of noise on the vehicle indicates that the pinion should be closer to flywheel, check to make sure proper starter motor was installed. During initial starter motor installation, shim(s) are not used.
CAUTION: Never operate the cranking motor more than 30 seconds at a time without pausing to allow it to cool for at least 2 minutes. Overheating, caused by excessive cranking will seriously damage the cranking motor.
