- If the seat is equipped with reclining seat backs, position the seat backs in the normal upright position. Remove the seat from the vehicle and place upright on a clean surface. See FRONT SEATΒ under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Raise the rear of the seat until the seat back is 6 degrees forward of the vertical position; place blocks under the rear of the seat to hold the seat in this position.
- Check the seat back lock as follows:
- Manually apply enough rearward pressure to the top of the seat back until the hinge arm firmly hits the rearward position stop, positioning back in the normal upright position.
- With hand pressure at the top of the seat back, manually attempt to move the seat back forward. The seat back should be locked and should not move forward more than 50 mm (2 inches).
- With finger pressure, lift the emergency release lever (seat back should release and pivot forward).
- Visually check that the emergency release lever returns to the normal position.
- Manually apply enough rearward pressure to return the seat back against the stop in the normal upright position and reapply forward pressure, checking for relock. If the lock does not lock, or the release lock lever does not release lock or does not return to the normal position, remove the lock and install a new lock assembly.
- If installing a new lock, check that the lock hook lever inside the lock swings freely prior to installation. After installation, check the lock as described in steps Β 1 -Β 3 .
NOTE:
Use an angle meter, which can be purchased at a hardware or department store. See Fig 1
