Change Engine Oil Indicator Always On

Diagnostic Fault Information

Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Circuit/System Description

The engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM) determines when the engine oil should be changed and calculates the oil life in percent. The ECM/PCM sends this information via class 2 serial data to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) which illuminates the oil level percent in the driver information center (DIC). The IPC will illuminate the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message and indicator when the oil needs to be changed.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Verify the scan tool Engine Oil Life Remaining parameter is greater than 0 percent.

If equal to 0 percent, reset the engine oil life.

2. If the percent value is normal, replace the IPC.

Repair Instructions
