Diagnosis & Testing: Notes
EBCM performs system self-diagnostics and can detect and often isolate a system malfunction. When a malfunction is detected, EBCM sets a DTC and illuminates ABS/TCS warning light and may also disable ABS/TCS functions as necessary for duration of ignition cycle.
EBCM performs an auto test once per ignition cycle when ignition is turned to RUN position. Auto test cycles each solenoid valve and pump motor (and all necessary relays) in order to check component operation. If an error is detected, EBCM will set a DTC. AUTO TEST may be felt and heard while it is in progress.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
