Diagnostic Procedures

2000 Buick Park Avenue Base, 3.8 KSECTION Diagnostic Procedures
  1. Perform On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECKΒ  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD system check, go to next step.
  2. If any other DTCs (except P0172 and P0175) are set, diagnose affected DTCs before proceeding. If no other DTCs are set, operate vehicle in closed loop mode. Using scan tool, observe LT fuel trim value. If value is greater than -18% LT, go to next step. If value is not greater than -18% LT, go to step Β 4.
  3. Turn ignition off for at least 15 seconds. Start engine. Operate vehicle within conditions noted in FAILURE RECORDS data. Using scan tool, read SPECIFIC DTC while operating vehicle. Continue operating vehicle until this DTC test runs. If scan tool indicates that this DTC FAILED THIS IGN, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate that this DTC FAILED THIS IGN, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDSΒ .
  4. If a fuel trim related DTC is also set. If a fuel trim DTC is set, go to next step. If no fuel trim related DTC is set, go to step Β 6.
  5. Inspect for collapsed air intake duct. Ensure air filter is clean and not restricted. Ensure MAF sensor is installed in proper direction and no foreign objects are blocking inlet screen. Inspect for fuel in fuel pressure regulator hose. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go step Β 7. If all components are okay, diagnose fuel system malfunction. See BASIC FUEL SYSTEM CHECKS in appropriate BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article.
  6. Check for leaking fuel injectors. If injectors are leaking, go to step Β 9. If fuel injectors are not leaking, go to step Β 8.
  7. Repair or replace faulty system components as necessary. After repairs, go to step Β 9.
  8. Replace faulty HO2S. After repairs, go to next step.
  9. Using scan tool, read and record FAILURE RECORDS data, and clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within conditions noted in FAILURE RECORDS data. Using scan tool, select SPECIFIC DTC INFO for this DTC. If scan tool indicates that this DTC FAILED THIS IGN, go to step Β 2. If scan tool does not indicate that this DTC FAILED THIS IGN, go to next step.
  10. Using scan tool, select CAPTURE INFO, REVIEW INFO function. If any undiagnosed DTCs are displayed, go to applicable DTC test. If no undiagnosed DTCs are displayed, system is okay.
