- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Ensure scan tool powers up properly. If scan tool does not power up correctly, diagnose concern with circuits of DLC. See DATA LINK CONNECTORS article under WIRING DIAGRAMS.
- Turn ignition with to ON position. Attempt to establish communications with Standard Body Module (SDM), Driver Door Module (DDM), Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) module and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If scan tool communicates with all modules listed, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with modules listed or if any "U" codes are present, repair module communications network concern. See SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 SERIAL DATA LINE .
- Display DTCs present for SBM, DDM, IPC and PCM. If IPC DTCs are present, go to ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - PARK AVENUE article. For DTCs present for SBM or DDM, perform appropriate test procedure for DTCs present. For DTCs present for PCM ("P" codes), see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE manual. If no DTC is exists, diagnose by symptoms present.
