Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
Description & Operation
All models use a power trunk pull-down system that pulls down and latches the trunk lid during the last 1" (25 mm) of travel. A combination latch/release mechanism is located in the trunk lid. A permanent magnet pull-down motor is located in the trunk lid opening lower panel. See Fig 1.
When the trunk lid is closed, very light pressure is required to cause the latch to grab the extended striker on the motor. The motor will then run, taking the lid to its completely closed position. The key lock frame then depresses the plunger switch breaking the circuit to the motor. The motor will then shut off.
