  1. Attach Tech I (94-00101-A) scanner. Raise vehicle with assistant in driver's seat. Turn ignition on and put transmission in Neutral. Instruct assistant to energize the rear hold solenoids with scanner (Rear Hold Function on ABS-III function check menu). Apply medium pressure to service brake.
  2. Note pedal travel and pump operational pattern while solenoid is energized. Rear wheel should turn freely for 6 seconds before brake begins application. If brake applies in 5 seconds or less, brake pedal fades to floor, or pump runs excessively, replace Powermaster-III rear solenoid. If problem persists, replace Powermaster-III. If okay, proceed to next step.
  3. Instruct assistant to moderately apply brakes. Energize front HOLD solenoids with scanner (Front Hold Function on ABS-III function check menu). Brake fluid spraying within reservoir should not be heard. Apply medium pressure to service brake.
  4. Wheel should turn freely for 6 seconds before brake begins application with only driveline resistance. If brake applies in 5 seconds or less, brake pedal fades to floor, or pump runs unacceptably, replace appropriate solenoid in Powermaster-III. If condition continues, replace Powermaster-III.
