1990 Buick Regal Custom, 3.8 L, 4T60/ME9SECTION Abs-III Function Check "A": System Function Check
NOTE: An assistant is required to perform ABS-III System Function Check.
  1. Attach Tech I (94-00101-A) scanner. Raise vehicle with assistant in driver's seat. Turn ignition on and put transmission in Neutral. Rotate each wheel. All wheels should rotate.
  2. Have assistant apply medium pressure to brake pedal. Wheels should not rotate. If front wheels rotate, bleed hydraulic system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEMΒ .
  3. If front wheels still rotate after bleeding system, replace Powermaster-III. If rear wheels rotate, see ABS-III FUNCTION CHECK "C". If wheels do not rotate, proceed to next step.
  4. With medium pressure applied to brake pedal, instruct assistant to energize the HOLD and RELEASE solenoids with scanner (Release Function on ABS-III function check menu). Rotate each wheel as its solenoid is energized. Wheel should rotate. Slight drag is okay.
  5. If wheel does not rotate, brake pedal fades to floor, or pump runs unacceptably, check wiring harness and corresponding solenoid's connector. If wiring harness and connector are okay, replace solenoid and repeat step 3). If condition persists, replace Powermaster-III.
