- Depressurize system. With ignition off, pump brake pedal a MINIMUM of 40 times with complete pedal strokes. Remove accumulator and install Pressure Gauge (J-37118). Attach accumulator on gauge. See HYDRAULIC SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS CHART. Bleed Powermaster-III at bleeder valves. Bleed brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM. Turn on ignition while observing pressure gauge.
- System pressure should quickly rise from zero to 500 psi (35 kg/cm2 ). If pressure is not as specified, replace accumulator. If pressure is okay, allow system to pressurize until pump stops. Apply and hold brake pedal while observing time necessary to activate pump.
- If pump off time is less than 50 seconds, check accumulator precharge. If precharge is less than 600 psi (42 kg/cm2 ), replace accumulator. If precharge exceeds 600 psi, pump off time must increase proportionately. See MINIMUM PUMP OFF TIME table. If pump off time does not increase proportionately, replace Powermaster-III unit.
