Check belt for fraying. If fraying is noticed, be sure both belt and tensioner are aligned properly. See Fig 1. If tensioner reaches limit of travel, belt is stretched and should be replaced. If a whining or grinding noise can be heard around tensioner or idler, check for possible bearing failure.
