- Turn control switch on, check that indicator light comes on and that grid gets hot. Wait 10 minutes. Indicator light should go off. Turn control switch on again. Check that indicator light goes off after 5 minutes.
- Turn control switch on once more, check that indicator light comes on and immediately turn switch off. Check that indicator light goes off and that grid cools down.
- Check "ACC" circuit breaker by operating power door locks. Check gauge fuse on Delta 88 by watching instrument panel indicators. Check gauge fuse on Toronado by operating the trunk release. If problem involves time that defogger operates, replace timer/relay. If defogger does not heat, check defogger grid.
- Turn IGNITION and control switch on. Remove timer/relay from connector and measure voltage at connector terminals. Check Lt. Blue, Orange/Black and Pink/Black wire terminals for battery voltage. If voltage is incorrect, check circuit for that terminal.
- If voltage is correct, disconnect negative battery cable and measure Black and Purple/White wire resistance to ground. Resistance reading must be zero ohms for Black wire, and one ohm or less for the Purple/White wire. If resistance is incorrect, check circuit for that terminal. If voltage and resistance are correct on Delta 88, replace timer/relay.
- On Toronado, check the Pink/Black wire terminal for battery voltage at all times. With ignition on, check Lt. Blue wire for battery voltage when the control switch is on. Check for zero voltage when control switch is off. If voltage at Pink/Black wire is not present, check wire back to fuse. If the voltage at Lt. Blue wire does not switch correctly, replace control switch.
