Forward Clutch: Inspection

  1. Inspect composition, steel and backing plates for wear, scores or other damage. Check spring retainer and release springs for distortion or collapse. Inspect piston and housing for cracks, distortion, open oil passages, or other damage. Inspect snap ring grooves for wear or damage, and make sure ball check in housing operates freely.
  2. Check turbine shaft for open passages on both ends of shaft, and check journals for damage. Inspect clutch housing cup plug and if damaged, remove using No. 3 screw extractor (grind to fit). Install new cup plug to .039" (1.0 mm) below surface (grind to fit).
