Throttle Control Solenoid

1971 Buick LeSabre Base, Not Available, 5.7L Eng, Eng CD TC, Standard TransSECTION Throttle Control Solenoid

All V8 engines with synchro-mesh transmissions are equipped with a Throttle Control Solenoid, which is controlled by a transmission-mounted switch, and provides a higher idle speed while in third or fourth gear to reduce exhaust gas dilution and misfiring on closed throttle deceleration. The Throttle Control Solenoid is adjusted as follows: Place shift lever in Neutral, start engine and disconnect solenoid connector wire. Disconnect relay single connector and plug into solenoid to energize. With throttle in hot idle position, adjust solenoid adjusting bolt to obtain a speed of 1100 RPM.

NOTE: Solenoid is assembled at factory with plunger screwed inward against stop of solenoid and cannot be adjusted inward unless solenoid bracket is adjusted also.
