The additional exhaust-gas recirculation cooler is fitted with a bypass flap so that it can also be used to control whether the exhaust gas is cooled or forwarded through the bypass. The bypass valve is vacuum-operated.

An exhaust-gas temperature sensor is placed at the output of the additional exhaust-gas recirculation cooler so that the exhaust-gas temperature can be measured.
