2011 BMW 535i StandardSECTION 11 36... Replacing screw connection on VANOS gear (N55)

Special tools required: 

  • 2 333 991
  • 0 418 185
IMPORTANT: Aluminum screws 
Aluminum screws/bolts must be replaced each time they are released.
Joining torque and angle of rotation must be observed without fail (risk of damage).
In ideal conditions, screw temperature and component temperature are identical.
Maximum permissible difference between aluminum screw and VANOS gearbox 20°C.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

  • Remove cylinder head cover.
IMPORTANT: Crosswise tightening of aluminum screws is necessary.

Replies aluminum screws in sequence (1 to 4).

For this, the engine must be rotated at the central bolt by 360° at a time.

Mark all replaced aluminum screws with a colored mark.

NOTE: Illustration shows Exhaust camshaft adjuster removed.
