2011 BMW 535i AutomaticSECTION 12 41 020 Removing and installing/replacing starter (N63)

Necessary preliminary tasks:Β 

Unlock connector (1) and remove.

Slacken nut (2).

Tightening torque 12 42 2AZ .

Detach starter positive cable.

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 12 41 1AZ .

Disengage cable (2) from holder.

Pull out starter in direction of travel, feed out and remove.

Installation note:Β 

When replacing the starter, convert cable holder for cable (2).

Installation note:Β 

Check starter pinion and starter ring gear for damage. If necessary, replace damaged components.

Reassemble the vehicle.

Only during starter replacement and on vehicles with MSA (automatic engine start-stop function):Β 

  • Use BMW diagnosis system to reset the starter counter.
