21 21 000 - Removing and installing/replacing clutch (GS7S47BG SMG)
Special tools required:
- 21 2 300 21 2 300 Centering Fixture
Important!
Clutches which have fallen apart during removal or installation must not be reinstalled.
Dual-mass flywheel and double-plate clutch are matched.
All markings must be observed.
Risk of damage to dual-mass flywheel.
Important!
Guide sleeve, ball pin and spring clip must be replaced without fail when the clutch is replaced.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove transmission Removing and Installing Transmission (GS7S47BG SMG).
Important!
Remove double-plate clutch with special tool 21 2 300 21 2 300 Centering Fixture.
Insert special tool 21 2 300 21 2 300 Centering Fixture in direction of arrow into clutch.
Note:
Special tool 21 2 300 21 2 300 Centering Fixture is correctly fitted when the lock snaps into place.
Screw in bolts uniformly in 1/2 turns.
Adhere to sequence 1 to 9 when releasing bolts.

Important!
Double-plate clutch must not be disassembled or opened.
If the double-plate clutch is opened however, it must be replaced complete with pressure plate.
Check inspection line (3) on double-plate clutch.
Intermediate pressure plate (1) and pressure plate (2) are balanced in relation to each other and marked with an inspection line (3).
The clutch must be replaced if the marking (3) no longer matches up.
Clamp special tool 21 2 300 21 2 300 Centering Fixture with handle in a vice.
Release lock (1) in direction of arrow.
Raise double-plate clutch (3) in direction of arrow.
Installation Note:
Install new double-plate clutch (3).
Retaining hooks (2) must be locked.
Installation Note:
When installing the clutch, ensure that springs (1) are exactly adjusted to fit in flywheel bores (2).
Important!
Clutch must be installed without tension.
Install double-plate clutch with special tool 21 2 300 21 2 300 Centering Fixture.
Marking (1) on double-plate clutch.
Marking (2) on dual-mass flywheel.
Installation Note:
Both markings (1 and 2) must be offset by 180° (a tolerance of 10°-20° is possible) to each other.
Double-plate clutch and dual-mass flywheel are matched to each other.
Insert all bolts.
Tighten down bolts uniformly in 1/2 turns.
Observe tightening sequence 1 to 9.
Tightening torque: 21 21 1AZ. Clutch to Flywheel
Note:
Illustration does not show special tool.
Installation Note:
Release retaining ring (1) with a suitable tool in direction of arrow.
Retaining ring (1) is only supplied with a new double-plate clutch.
Retaining ring (1) is no longer needed.
Remove all special tools.
Add final details to vehicle.
Carry out diagnosis SMG / service function.
