00 11 230 - Changing/supplementing/checking transmission oil in manual transmission (GS7S47BG SMG)
Important!
It is essential to adhere to the exact filling capacities specified.
Fill transmission at room temperature only (approx. 20° - 30° C)!
Gear oil:
refer to BMW Service Operating Fluids.
Failure to comply with this instruction will result in serious damage to the transmission!
Recycling:
Catch and dispose of gear oil with suitable equipment.
Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Unscrew and remove splash guard.
Draining gear oil:
- Open oil drain plug (1) and drain gear oil.
- Activate transmission oil pump using DIS Tester ("Control unit functions-Component activation") for approx. 30 seconds. Pump activation can be performed several times in succession so that the specified time is achieved!
Here the residual oil is pumped out of the pump circuit of the gear oil cooler into the transmission housing and drains off.
- Clean oil drain plug (1) and screw in.
Tightening torque 23 00 4AZ Transmission in General.
Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 23 41 17AZ [1][2]Automatically Shifted Manual Transmission/Transaxle.
Clean gear oil screen, replace if necessary
Installation Note:
Replace sealing ring
Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 23 41 16AZ [1][2]Automatically Shifted Manual Transmission/Transaxle.
Remove gear oil cooler in direction of arrow.
Installation Note:
Journal (1) on gear oil cooler must be secured in rubber grommet (2)!
Adding gear oil.
- Undo oil filler plug (2).
- Add 2.0 ltrs. of gear oil.
- Refit oil filler plug (2).
- Check gear oil level (see below).
Checking gear oil level:
Note:
Can also be carried out individually - without an oil change!
- Activate gear oil pump for approx. 1 minute with DIS Tester (Component activation).
Pump activation can be performed several times in succession so that the specified time is achieved.
- Open oil filler plug.
- Add gear oil up to lower edge of filler aperture.
- Refit oil filler plug.
Tightening torque 23 00 4AZ Transmission in General.
