Setting The Short Range Sensor - Fitting Angle
In contrast to the long range sensor (LRR), the short range sensors do not requite any mechanical setting. However, when fitting a short range sensor special attention must be paid to the exact installation location of the short range sensor (observe installation instructions), as otherwise the corresponding sensor can be detected as "maladjusted". For the short range sensors, it is sufficient to store the fitting angle of the short range sensors in the LDM control module. This is a fixed value for each short range sensor - depending on the model series and vehicle equipment.
The fitting angles must be stored again in the LDM control module if:
- A new short range sensor is fitted.
- The front apron of the vehicle is converted from series to sports front apron and vice versa (observe installation instructions: the installation location of the short range sensors must be changed).
- Incorrect fitting angles are stored in the LDM.
This service function can be used both to read out the stored fitting angles from the LDM control module and to store new fitting angles in the LDM control module. After selection of the model series/vehicle equipment, the corresponding fitting angles are determined automatically.
Important notes for service staff
Mechanical damage to the front apron and/or to the retaining fixtures for the short-range sensors can result in failure of the ACC Stop & Go function. In the event of a customer complaint or the fault memory entry "short range sensor maladjusted", first check the vehicle front or brackets of the short range sensors for damage (for example dents / impressions in the front apron in the area of the short range sensors) and, repair these if necessary. Moreover, multiple layers of paint on the bumper in the area of the short range sensors can "blind" the short range sensors. In this case, the same Check Control message as in the case of soiled short range sensors is displayed.
