Electrical Diagnosis

The following specific features are to be observed during electrical diagnosis of the convertible top!

Temperature sensor of hydraulic combination
The temperature sensor is located in the hydraulic unit. The resistance range is non-linear.

The status display of the pump temperature is activated after the pump has been running for 15 seconds.

Hall sensors/potentiometers
If one Hall sensor has a short to ground, the entire voltage supply of the sensor group will be switched off. It is not clear what fault code is set first. All sensors of the group may be stored as faulty or the absence of the voltage supply may be detected. If a lead is short-circuited over a high contact resistance, this may impair the power supply to the Hall sensors. A supply voltage of 5 V must be applied at the control-unit output.

Jolt in convertible top movement
Jolts in convertible top movement or when locking indicate poor battery charge. This is due to the high current intake of the electrical drives. If this problem also occurs while the engine is running, the leads and ground connections must be checked.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
