Situation
1994 BMW 530i (E34) V8-2997cc 3.0L DOHC (M60)SECTION Situation
BMW has developed a revised engine control module (DME) program which includes all of the latest updates to achieve a more homogeneous air/fuel distribution and thereby improve the combustion process under all operating conditions. This revision to the DME programming will assure the smooth running characteristics of the eight cylinder M60 engine and provide for a high idle quality under all environmental conditions. In addition, a modified coolant thermostat is being installed to increase the thermal efficiency of the engine and maintain smooth engine operation.
The update provides the following changes:
*1. A revised DME program which will:
^ Address the check engine light illuminating while going downhill and FC setting 201 and/or 203 set in DME.
^ Improve the warm-up program.
^ Improve the load reversal recognition on 530iA vehicles. Modification will address complaint of slight vibration which may occur during load reversal (accelerator pedal is released and depressed).
^ Improve the starting program for 530i vehicles.
2. A new engine thermostat with an activation temperature from 85°C to 9500.
Note:
Several changes have also been made to the shift philosophy associated with the AGS transmission programs. Additional information on the AGS EPROMs is available in S.I. 24 01 95 (4259).
^ AGS EPROMs are available to customers who do not like the current AGS shift programs.*
^ The new AGS shift program has been optimized for operation with the updated engine control module software
