Short Test Using Ohmmeter

1993 BMW 740iL (E32/2) V8-3982cc 4.0L DOHC (M60)SECTION Short Test Using Ohmmeter

Short Test Using Ohmmeter:

Short Test Using Ohmmeter:

1 Ohmmeter
2 Fuse holder (without fuse)
3 Switch for reversing light
4 Connection to load disconnected
5 Rear light

Measuring instrument: Ohmmeter

Problem: Short to ground

Test Procedure:

Disconnect voltage source and connect ohmmeter with test lead. Disconnect load and, moving the lead to the load back and forth, observe the ohmmeter reading. The ohmmeter will indicate an infinitely high resistance for as long as there is no short-circuit.

Problem: Short-circuit between two wires

Test Procedure:

Disconnect power supply to wires to be tested and disconnect load. Connect one test lead each to the two wires. Move the wires back and forth and observe the ohmmeter reading. The ohmmeter will indicate a resistance value with respect to zero as soon as a short-circuit occurs between the two wires.
