OPERATION
During the shift procedure, the Electronic Transmission Control (EGS) control unit sends the Digital Motor Electronic (DME) control unit a signal which has the effect of retarding the ignition timing and reducing the torque. This ensures smooth transition to the next drive range.
As soon as the torque converter clutch has engaged, the DME control unit switches over to another ignition timing characteristic map.
