- Carbon dioxide is a naturally occurring gas. It makes up approximately 0.039 % of the surrounding air and in its gaseous state, it is colorless and largely odor- and tasteless. This makes it undetectable to human sensory organs.
- Fluid evaporating quickly can cause frostbite.
- Carbon dioxide in its gaseous state is approximately 1.5 times heavier than the surrounding air. As a result, it collects in low-lying areas, such as work pits, cellars, etc. It can linger there for many hours if there is little air circulation.
- Carbon dioxide is not considered to be poisonous; however, higher concentrations in the air (3 -5 %) can cause headaches, light-headedness, dizziness, drowsiness and nausea.
- Concentrations over 5 % can cause loss of coordination and unconsciousness.
- Concentrations over 8 % can cause respiratory arrest and death.
