Center Differential Housing, Transmission Installed

Removing

Refer to => [ Repair Information ] Repair Information.

Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

Check the vehicle data label or the designation on the rear final drive itself to determine which one is installed in the vehicle. Then select the correct rear final drive repair information.

- Remove the driveshaft.





- Remove the tunnel crossmember. Refer to => [ Tunnel Crossmember ] Tunnel Crossmember.






- Drain the transmission fluid from the transfer case. Refer to => [ Transfer Case Transmission Fluid, Transmission with Separated Oil System, Draining and Filling ] Transfer Case Transmission Fluid, Transmission with Separated Oil System, Draining and Filling or => [ Transmission Fluid, Transmission with Combined Oil System, Draining and Filling ] Transmission Fluid, Transmission with Combined Oil System, Draining and Filling.

- Remove the bolts from the center differential housing in the following sequence: - 6 to 1 -.






Transmission components could be damaged.

Carefully remove the center differential housing from the transmission toward the rear. Otherwise the center differential could fall out of the transmission.

- Secure the center differential - 1 - so it does not fall out or remove it toward the rear from the input shaft.






Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

Replace the center differential housing O-ring.

If the center differential - 1 - was removed:

- Position the center differential on the input shaft splines. Rotate the center differential slightly when doing this.

- Make sure the center differential can be turned by hand.

- Install the housing with the transmission output shaft with splines installed and a new O-ring onto the center differential. Rotate the housing slightly if necessary.

- Tighten the center differential housing bolts. Refer to => [ Center Differential Housing - Tightening Specification and Sequence ] Description and Operation.






Check the vehicle data label or the designation on the rear final drive itself to determine which one is installed in the vehicle. Then select the correct rear final drive repair information.

- Install the driveshaft.

- Install the tunnel crossmember. Refer to => [ Tunnel Crossmember ] Tunnel Crossmember.

- Fill the transmission fluid in the transfer case. Refer to => [ Transfer Case Transmission Fluid, Transmission with Separated Oil System, Draining and Filling ] Transfer Case Transmission Fluid, Transmission with Separated Oil System, Draining and Filling or => [ Transmission Fluid, Transmission with Combined Oil System, Draining and Filling ] Transmission Fluid, Transmission with Combined Oil System, Draining and Filling.
