Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required 

  • Pressure gauge set V.A.G 1318.
  • Adapter V.A.G 1318/11.
  • Adapter V.A.G 1318/12.
  • Remote control V.A.G 1348/3 A with adapter cable V.A.G 1348/3-3 or equivalent.
  • Measuring container, fuel-resistant.

Test requirements

  • Battery voltage at least 12.5 V.

  • Vehicles with MPI engine: Fuel Pump (FP) Relay - J17- in relay and fuse carrier, position - - in left electronics box is OK.
  • Vehicles with FSI engine: Fuel Pump (FP) Control Module -J538- OK; checking → 20 - Fuel Supply Diagnosis and Testing .
  • Fuel filter OK.
  • Fuel tank at least 1 /4 filled.
  • Ignition switched off.

Test sequence

  • Remove bolts - arrows  - and remove cover for right locking flange.

  • Disconnect electrical connector - arrow  - at locking flange.

  • Connect remote control V.A.G 1348/3 A with connection V.A.G 1348/3-3 to contact - - using an adapter cable from connector test set V.A.G 1594 C.
  • Using insulating tape, tape over second contact of remote control connection V.A.G 1348/3-3 to prevent a short circuit - arrow  -.
  • Route switch of remote control V.A.G 1348/3 A forward into engine compartment.
  • Connect alligator clip to Ground (GND) point in engine compartment.
  • Connect contact - - to battery positive terminal (B+) using a self-made jumper cable. For safety reasons, install a fuse - - (10 A) in wiring.
  • Remove fuel filler cap from fuel filler tube.
  • Pull rear engine cover off - arrows  -.
  • Pull resonator - - upward - arrow  - and unclip it.
CAUTION: Fuel system is under pressure! Before opening system, place rags around the connection area. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection.
