2009 Audi A6 BaseSECTION Front Final Drive Gear Oil Level, Checking
NOTE:

Always maintain the specified transmission fluid level. The transmission is very sensitive to overfilling.

Test Sequence 

-- Take vehicle for a short test drive to heat gear oil to approximately 60 °C (140 °F).

-- Lift the vehicle on a hoist or park it over a work pit so that it is absolutely horizontal.

-- Turn off the engine for 5 minutes and let the gear oil drain back into the transmission housing.

-- Remove the rear noise insulation, refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Remove the plug -arrow-.

-- Check the oil level with a bent wire.

  • Specified value: Fluid level is 8.5 mm below the lower edge of the fluid fill hole.

-- Fill the gear oil, if necessary.

CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the transmission.

  • The multitronic 01J and 0AN transmission require different axle oil depending on the condition. Only axle oil for Multitronic which can be obtained as a replacement part must be used in front final drive. Only use gear oil that is assigned to the transmission code, refer to parts .
  • Mixing gear oil and other oils even in small amounts can damage the transmission components.
