Driveshaft, Removing From Rear Final Drive And Installing
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Counterhold - Kit - Multiple Use T10172 with Adapters T10172/5
- High Temperature Grease G 000 633
- Note the instructions, refer to DRIVESHAFT, SERVICING AND OVERVIEW .
- A twin-pillar lifting platform should be used when working on the driveshaft.
Driveshaft, Removing from Rear Final Drive
-- Loosen the clamping sleeves -1 and 2- and remove the rear section of the exhaust system, refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM OVERVIEW .
-- Make sure there is a marking on the driveshaft and on the flange/driveshaft on the rear final drive -arrows A and B-.
-- If this marking is not present, then mark in color the position of driveshaft flange -arrow A- to rear final drive -arrow B-.
-- Remove the bolts -1- (quantity: 6) from the rear CV joint.
-- Use the Counterhold - Kit - Multiple Use T10172 with Adapters T10172/5.
-- Disconnect driveshaft from rear final drive and tie it up -arrow-.
Install the Driveshaft on the Rear Final Drive, refer to DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING FROM REAR FINAL DRIVE AND INSTALLING .
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Remove any old, dry high-temperature grease from the CV joint and the driveshaft flange. Put in exactly the same quantity of fresh high temperature grease G 000 633.
- The threads in the flange shaft on the rear final drive must be cleaned of locking fluid residue. They can be cleaned with a thread cutter. If the threads are not clean, the bolts will break off when they are being installed.
- After removing the driveshaft from the rear final drive, do not install the additional balance washer (thicker washer) that may be between the lock plate and bolt.
- Always replace securing bolts for driveshaft (self-locking bolts).
-- Replace the driveshaft seals on the rear final drive flange shaft. Remove grease from the sealing surface and bond the new seal.
-- Make sure that the markings on the driveshaft flange -arrow A- and the rear final drive -arrow B- are aligned.
