Cylinder Head Assembly Overview
• Cylinder head for cylinder bank 2 (left) is shown in illustration.
1 Cylinder head gasket
• Replacing, refer to => [ Cylinder Head ] Cylinder Head.
• Installation position: the part number faces the cylinder head
• After replacing, change coolant and engine oil
2 Cylinder Head
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Cylinder Head ] Cylinder Head
• Check for distortion, refer to => [ Checking Cylinder Head for Distortion ]
• Reworking dimension, refer to => [ Reworking Dimension, Cylinder Head ]
• After replacing, change coolant and engine oil
3 Cylinder head cover gasket
• Replace if damaged or leaking
4 Cylinder head cover
• Removing and installing, refer to: Left => [ Left Cylinder Head Cover ] Left Cylinder Head Cover, right => [ Right Cylinder Head Cover ] Right Cylinder Head Cover
5 Gasket
• For cap
• Replace if damaged or leaking
6 Cap
7 Ignition coil
• Remove with Puller (T40039)
8 Special bolt - 9 Nm
• Replace if seal is damaged
• Note tightening sequence => [ Tighten cylinder head cover in sequence. ] Left Cylinder Head Cover
9 Valve for camshaft adjustment
• Cylinder bank 1 (right) Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 (N205)
• Cylinder bank (left) Camshaft Adjustment Valve 2 ( N208)
10 2.4 Nm
11 O-ring
• Replace
12 Seal
• Replace
13 Locking bolt - 35 Nm
14 2.4 Nm
15 Camshaft adjustment valve in the exhaust
• Cylinder bank 1 (right) Exhaust camshaft control valve 1 (N318)
• Cylinder bank (left) Camshaft Adjustment Valve 2 (exhaust) (N319)
16 O-ring
• Replace
17 Cylinder head bolt
• Replace
• Observe sequence for loosening => [ Loosen cylinder head bolts in the sequence. ] Cylinder Head
• Note tightening sequence => [ Tighten the bolts in 6 steps according to
the tightening sequence: ] Cylinder Head
Checking Cylinder Head for Distortion
- Check cylinder head at multiple points for distortion, using straight edge and feeler gauges.
• Max. permissible distortion: 0.1 mm.
Reworking Dimension, Cylinder Head
- Resurfacing cylinder head (face grinding) is only permissible to minimum dimension - a -.
• Minimum dimension: - a - = 139.5 mm.
