CONDITION

  • Load change noise (clacking) on the A3 and TT with manual gearbox (02Q, 02M, 02Y).
  • Clacking noises from the area of the transmission swivel support at load change.

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

Engine vibrations can cause the attachments on the swivel support to become loose.

PRODUCTION SOLUTION

Modification in production.

SERVICE

Because of the anticorrosion protection, the HeliCoil elements pictured in Fig 1 must be installed. If elements without surface coating are installed, the thread may be destroyed by corrosion.

  1. Install HeliCoil thread elements (N 100 655 03)  on both mounting holes in the gearbox housing for the attachment of the swivel support bolts. Contrary to the Repair Manual, use the following two bolts to attach the swivel support:
    • M10x35 (N 910 661 01).
    • M10x75 (N 106 802 01).
  2. Torque bolts to 50 Nm + 90°.
