Transmission, Installing: Notes
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
Clean the ATF pipes and the ATF cooler before installing a replacement transmission. Refer to ATF PIPES AND ATF COOLER, CLEANINGΒ .
Replace the self-locking nuts and bolts during installation.
Replace bolts which have a specified tightening angle, as well as seals and gaskets.
When installing make sure the heat shield sleeves are in their original positions.
The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.
Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory. Refer to Parts.
When installing make sure the cable tie are in their original positions.
-- Before installing transmission make sure the torque converter is correctly installed in the transmission:
- With torque converter installed correctly, the distance between contact surfaces on threaded holes on converter and torque converter bell housing contact surface is 19 mm.
If the converter is not properly installed, the drive lugs on the converter and the ATF pump will be severely damaged when the transmission is attached to the engine.
-- Before installing the transmission, make sure the alignment sleeves -A- are correctly positioned on the cylinder block, if necessary install.
-- If an intermediate place was between the engine and transmission, reinstall in the same position.
-- Before guiding together the engine and transmission, turn torque converter and engine drive plate so that one hole and one threaded hole are at the level of the removed starter opening.
-- Be careful not to kink the lines when sliding the engine and the transmission together.
Note the following when installing the transmission.
- Before and during fastening the engine/transmission flange bolts, check that the torque converter can still be turned behind the drive plate.
- If the torque converter cannot be turned, it must be assumed that it has not been installed properly and that the drive plate of the torque converter or the ATF pump will be destroyed during final tightening of the bolts.
-- Attach the transmission to the engine.
