Encode control module
Have you just replaced a control module with traction control function (ASR), or is one of the following DTCs stored in the DTC memory of the control module?
- "ABS/EDL/transmission - electrical connection"
- "Control module incorrectly encoded"
- "CAN-bus - No message from transmission control module"
The control module must be coded according to the type of engine and transmission.
- The coding can only be performed if a workshop code is stored in V.A.G 1551.

- The 5-digit coding will appear when the control module identification is displayed.
- Connect Scan tool V.A.G 1551 and select "Brake electronics" with address word 03. See VAG1551 SCAN TOOL (ST), CONNECTING AND ENTERING ADDRESS WORDΒ .
- Check the control module version. See CHECK CONTROL MODULE VERSIONΒ and press the --> button.
- Press --> button.
Indicated on display:
- Press buttons -0- and -7- for "Coding control module" function.
Indicated on display:
- Confirm input with -Q- button.
Indicated on display:
- Enter the required code number and confirm with -Q- button.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
